Benefits of Porcelain Fillings

Porcelain and ceramic technologies have made traditional metal and amalgam fillings a thing of the past. The benefits of porcelain are so great that many of our patients are choosing to get their metal fillings replaced with porcelain. We have placed hundreds of porcelain fillings and replacements in the last few years. Let us take a look at some of these benefits:
  • Aesthetics – This is the most obvious benefit. Porcelain can be matched to your tooth color to make your fillings virtually imperceptible. Replacing your unsightly old metal fillings will do wonders for your smile.
  • Greater strength and longevity – Because porcelain fillings are bonded to your tooth, they actually make your tooth stronger. Metal fillings are subject to expansion and contraction due to temperature changes and can actually damage your tooth. You can expect your porcelain fillings to last much longer than metal fillings.
  • Reduced risk of decay – Because metal fillings are packed into a cavity and not bonded to the tooth, there is potential for decay to develop around the edges of a metal filling.
